Calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate
About BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to perform basic, life-sustaining functions while at rest. This includes breathing, circulation, nutrient processing, and cell production.
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation:
- Men: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age) + 5
- Women: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age) - 161
TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is your BMR multiplied by your activity level. This is the total number of calories you burn in a day, including all physical activity.
Important Notes:
- These are estimates and individual metabolism varies
- Muscle mass affects BMR (more muscle = higher BMR)
- Age and hormones affect metabolism
- Always consult a healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes
